GED & Academic Upgrading Program: Overview
What is the GED Program?
The St. Christopher House GED Program prepares you to write the GED (General Educational Development) exam.
The GED Program offers flexible scheduling on a part-time basis, 12 hours per week, and uses self-directed computer software with support from volunteers and staff.
Daytime and evening times are available.
Enrollment times vary; most learners complete their preparation in 4 to 6 months.
What is the GED Exam?
The GED Exam lets people who have not finished High School show that they have the skills and knowledge that High School graduates have.
People who successfully pass the GED Exam earn an Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate which is widely accepted for employment, apprenticeships, and post-secondary education purposes.
The Exam has 5 parts:
- Language Arts (Reading)
- Language Arts (Writing)
- Mathematics
- Social Studies
- Science
The exam is written over two days and takes a total of seven hours and five minutes to complete.
The St. Christopher House GED Program is open to anyone over 18 who has not completed High School; however, to be eligible to write the exam, candidates must:
- be over 18 years old
- have not completed high school
- have been out of school for at least one year
- provide valid photo ID.
The exam is administered by the Independent Learning Centre, located in the TVOntario building at 2180 Yonge St. (Yonge St. & Eglington Ave.)
