GED & Academic Upgrading Program: Overview
The GED & Academic Upgrading Program assists individuals to upgrade their academic skills.
Eligible students can enroll in the General Educational Development (GED) preparation program or the Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) Academic Upgrading program.
The GED program prepares you to write the GED exam. Successful candidates earn an Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate which is widely accepted for employment, apprenticeships, and post-secondary education purposes.
The Academic Upgrading program is tailored for students who will go onto college.
The program offers flexible scheduling on a part-time basis, 12 hours per week, and uses self-directed computer software with support from volunteers and staff. Daytime and evening times are available. Enrollment times vary; most learners complete their preparation in 4 to 6 months. To be eligible to write the exam, candidates must be over 18 years old, have not completed high school, and have been out of school for at least one year. Prepare to enter a College program. Academic Upgrading offers part-time evening instruction in Communications - English and Computer Studies. A George Brown College instructor teaches a combination of teacher-led and self-directed learning. Students are also registered as George Brown College upgrading students and have access to the college's resources such as the library and career centre.
