The Access for Marginalized Newcomers Adisory Commitee will provide capacity building for settlement agencies and community organizations to improve access to services for marginalized immigrants and refugees. Immigrants and refugees who experience mental health issues, addictions, or homelessness for example, are often especially marginalized as the challenges attached to being a newcomer intersect with those experiences. Such newcomers often face barriers to accessing support, services and resources.
The Access for Marginalized Newcomers Advisory Committee will provide training and resources to settlement agencies and community organizations based on gaps and needs identified by service users and service providers. The project will focus on effective dissemination of information about issues, barriers and services, improvement of programming, cross-referrals and development of on-going supports for marginalized newcomers. The project also aims to facilitate advocacy for systemic change.
The first phase of the project involves the creation of an advisory committee to discuss the challenges, gaps, and barriers as they see them and to develop training approaches. As a key stakeholder we hope you will join this advisory committee.
The role as the Advisory Committee member to provide feedback to the project in area like outreach strategy, group sessions, Best Practice Forum, evaluation and final report.
The advisory committee comprises settlement agencies and social service providers. For more information please click on the following link:
