Groups
We currently have the following types of groups available:
- ESL Tutoring / Settlement groups
- Vietnamese Settlement group
- Mandarin Children's Group
- Income Tax preparation for low income earners
ESL Tutoring /Settlement Groups
Trained volunteers will help you improve your individual language skills within a flexible time schedule. The small goup format provides an opportunity to:
- improve your English language skills
- learn more about settlement and community resources
- learn about Canadian culture in a supportive environment
- meet new people
- participate in the community.
Free child care and TTC tokens available.
Vietnamese Settlement Group
This group consists primarily of Vientnamese seniors who would like to improve English language skills in order to become more independent and active in their community. The topics discussed in the group are based on the needs and intersts of the participants. Some of the topics include:
- Inter-generational communication (how to communicate with your grandchild)
- How to communicate assertively
- Canadian history, politics and culture
- Health care for seniors
- Accessing community resources
- Safety and security for seniors.
When: Thursdays 11am - 1pm
Where: St. Christopher House, 248 Ossington Avenue
Mandarin Children's Group
This group is for children between the ages of 6 and 12, who want to learn how to read, write and speak the Mandarin language. A Mandarin–speaking volunteer facilitates the group. The group takes place Friday nights from 6pm-8pm.
