After School Opera Program

The After-School Opera Program is sponsored by the Canadian Opera Company and is for children ages 7 to 12, grade 2-7.  A maximum of 25 students can participate per term.  Over a 10 week period, children are exposed to all aspects of opera including singing, acting and set and costume design through hands-on experiences and the expertise of guest lecturers.  The students use what they have learned apply it to a new work written by head teacher Dean Burry.  They perform the world premiere of this new opera to family and friends at the final class.  All classes take place on Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00 in the Community Hall of St. Christopher House, 248 Ossington Ave (at Dundas).  The cost is $15.00 per student per session.

Dates for 2011-2012 terms are;

Fall - September 28, 2011 to November 30, 2011

Winter- January 11, 2012 to March 7, 2012

Spring - March 28, 2012 to May 30, 2012.

The Fall class is open to all students.  Due to the overwhelming popularity of the program there are limitations on enrollment for the winter and spring terms.  To ensure that ALL children get a chance to participate, a student can register for one of the three sessions.  The same child may be put on a waiting list for one of the other sessions.  Children who have never done the program will get priority over those on the waiting list.

Registration for 2011-2012 sessions will be:

Fall- September 6-September 19, 2011

Winter- December 15, 2011 to January 6, 2012

Spring- February 15, 2012 to March 19, 2012.

During the above dates, registration forms will be available through the Music School office or reception.  Please contact Sherry at 416-532-4828 x127 or email sherrysq@stchrishouse.org for more information.
