Sherry Squires

Sherry Squires hails from St. John’s Newfoundland where she first began playing piano and fell in love with singing.  Sherry has been playing the piano for 42 years and has been singing her entire life.

Sherry began teaching piano lessons at St. Christopher House Music School in 1987.  She began working at St. Chris in the position of Music School Coordinator in 1998 and has loved every minute of it.

Sherry enjoys all kinds of music as long as it has a good tune.  She works each week and passes on this love of music and song to St. Chris’ adult choir the Toronto Song Lovers.

Sherry couldn’t imagine her life without music.  She has learned so much especially when making music with other people.  Sherry believes that music is a positive, healthy and fun activity that allows you to express yourself.  Music can be shared or it can remain private – no matter what it brings people a lot of pleasure.

A group that Sherry belongs to called “Daughters of the Rock” put out a CD in 2000 which all sold out.  They have recorded another CD and are in the process of having it edited and laid down.

Sherry counts her major influences as Kathleen Parsons who was one of her first piano teachers and Doug Dunsmore, a University professor who helped Sherry find her conducting chops.

Sherry has enjoyed her time at St. Chris so much that she has now been here for 22 years and doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon!
