Youth and Seniors Health Action Theatre

Youth Popular Theatre is a method used to teach young adults the tools necessary for building strong decision-making skills and healthy lifestyle choices by implementing theatre skills.  Through the avenues of acting and role-play students are put into potential real-life scenarios and work through them together in order to make the best decisions for everyone involved.  After the conclusion of the role-play outcomes are discussed and whether the best decisions were made.  The duration of each popular theatre session is 50 minutes.

The Health Action Theatre for Seniors (HATS) is an interactive program involving seniors and youth that operates during the summer months.  The seniors and youth discuss the issues they want to present in a non-verbal skit.  The issues to be addressed are related to alcohol and drug prevention, injury prevention and chronic disease.  The non-threatening manner in which the skit is prepared, discussed and allowed to unfold is beneficial in breaking down generational barriers, as well as transcending language barriers as the skits are non-verbal.  A tremendous amount of learning regarding the issues is accomplished during the preparation for the skits.  The skits are performed for our partners, for tenants at West Lodge, area residents, families, volunteers and other staff.
