Strengthening Families

The Strengthening Families project is a unique family change program designed to reduce factors that put families at risk and enhance factors that help families function well.  It operates through a partnership with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH http://www.camh.net/) in the Parkdale community.  It is a program designed for parents and caregivers along with their children aged 7 to 11 years.  The program includes a family meal as well as various programs geared towards helping parents, children and the entire family.

The Strengthening Families program is free of charge and provides child care for any children under the age of 7.

The Strengthening Families program is unique because it was designed specifically to:
- reduce risk factors
- build individual resilience
- enhance family protective factors

Together, these strategies help prevent children from developing problems with alcohol or other drugs and other health problems.  The program is presented in 14 consecutive weekly sessions, plus an additional 'booster' session to be offered several months after the completion of the program.  Each session lasts approximately three hours and includes a communal meal.

The next Strengthening Families session will take place starting on Wednesday, March 25th from 5:00 to 8:00pm.  The program will take place in the Catholic Children's Aid Society on the Second Floor in Dufferin Mall.  Click here to view a map.
