Youth Leadership Development Program
The Youth Leadership Development Program (Summer and Winter) for youth ages 13 to 16 focuses on strengthening personal identity and improving leadership skills through communication improvement, teamwork, personal support, learning new skills, gaining new knowledge and volunteer work. Youth participate in a full-day, 8 week summer program that includes a 40 hour volunteer placement component.
The Winter Leadership Program offers youth after school activities that run for 12 weeks. The volunteer placements are an important component of leadership development and provide challenging and rewarding experiences. Youth choose placements in: school age programs, preschool programs, senior supportive programs, administrative activities, special projects and Meals on Wheels. The Leadership Program encourages a positive sense of self-empowerment and the ability to control their environment. The volunteer placement is complemented by a curriculum that builds healthy teamwork practices, personal goal setting, conflict mediation, civic engagement, healthy coping techniques and peer support.
