Opera Program

The Canadian Opera Company's After-School Opera Program is an opera appreciation class for children between the ages of seven and twelve.  Students are exposed to all aspects of opera, from singing and acting to set design and lighting, through hands-on experience and guest lecturers. They use this knowledge to create and perform their own short opera.  This is a very popular program that fills up quickly.

This program is generously sponsored by Imperial Oil Foundation.

Sessions start in October, January and April and run for 10 weeks.  Classes are in the Community Hall at St. Chris on Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00.  Cost is $10 per student per session.  For more information please contact Sherry at 416-532-4828 x127 or sherrysq@stchrishouse.org

We are continuing our partnership with Suite Life, a program designed for inner city teenagers and led by local performer, Denese Matthews. Through a series of classes offered by guest artists, the participants explore vocal and percussion music, dance and drama culminating in the creation and performance of their own show at Harbourfront in March.  The program is runs for 16 Saturdays starting in mid-October, and is free for participants.  There is an audition  that is usually held the Saturday after Thanksgiving.   The program is a greatly needed creative outlet for the many talented teens in the community.

For further information please contact Denese Matthews at 416-691-3269.
