After School Opera Program
The After-School Opera Program is sponsored by the Canadian Opera Company and is for children ages 7 to 12, grade 2-7. A maximum of 25 students can participate per term. Over a 10 week period, children are exposed to all aspects of opera including singing, acting, lighting, directing and set and costume design through hands-on experiences and the expertise of guest lecturers. The students use what they have learned apply it to a new work written by head teacher Dean Burry. They perform the world premiere of this new opera to family and friends at the final class. All classes take place on Wednesdays from 4:00-6:00 in the Community Hall of St. Christopher House, 248 Ossington Ave (at Dundas).
The cost is $15.00 per student per session. All fees are paid through the receptionist who will issue a receipt upon payment. Bursary is available. Please go to www.coc.ca/bursary for more information and to download the application.
Session dates for 2012-2013 are;
Fall - October 3, 2012 to December 5, 2012
Winter- January 9, 2013 to March 6, 2013
Spring - April 10, 2013 to June 5, 2013.
Registration for the spring session will start Monday, March 4. Registration forms are available through the Music School office or reception or you can download the forms from the Canadian Opera Company web site at www.coc.ca. To register, you must complete and sign a registration form (one per child) and pay the registration fee. You may leave the complete forms with the receptionist who will return them to the Music School Coordinator.
