Welcome everyone to this experience. It is remarkable
that we have managed to get so many people to take two days out of their
busy schedule to come here. It will be a great experience for all of us. We have received funding from the federal government and our goals are pretty lofty. We really have an influence on the social sector. We will develop a community learning network. The purpose is to get kick started on this project. We need to really work hard over the next two days. We do need to make the most of it.

This environment is like an industrial dream kitchen. We want to mix together a plan. Here is our purpose, and the objectives which support that purpose |

These are some of the assumptions that we are going to operate on for the next two days. There are lots of issues that need to be solved. In terms of this technology, we are very conscious about accessibility. It is a pressure cooker to get this going. The overall development starts April 1, 2003. Cost is a very important issue, but we need to keep our minds open and creative. We have the parameters of the community learning
network set for us. We have the decision makers here. What we decide in
the next two days will stand. |

I have been interested in the difference between "an inside-out" organization (which presents itself to the community in terms of it's own hierarchy), and an "outside-in" organization (which presents itself in terms of what the community needs). This is an idea from the provincial government. in response to a culture that has emerged that doesn’t recognize the how others in the community access your organization. We are trying to think about the community that we are connecting with with attention to the fact that they will be able to navigate, taste, and smell the organization.

Darcy Christ We are hoping to borrow open source software and reuse it. Whatever we build will be there for other communities to use.
Dominic Bortolussi We went off and met with program directors and participants. There were three main areas of tools and suggestions. (see below)
Cameron Booth This would not be a community learning network without the community itself. Over the last week we have had sessions with the program groups. We found it surprising that different community groups did not know all that St. Christopher House had to offer. People are very interested in having tools and tutorials on line. |
