Integration and Inclusion

Last year’s community issue priority of immigration has been replaced by a broader view of the social exclusion of many diverse people. In addition to the barriers and discrimination facing newcomers to Canada, we also now include the barriers and discrimination facing individuals with disabilities, including mental health issues and/or addictions, age, religion, English as a second language, race/ethnicity, low literacy levels, low formal education, income levels etc. Many participants within St. Christopher House share more than one of these characteristics.
