The After School Tutoring Program aims to help children and youth between the ages 6 to 16 years old in a variety of school subjects ranging from: English, Math, Science and History. Children are referred to the program from parents and local schools based on their degree of need for extra-curricular support.

• To work one-to-one with a child/ youth between the ages 6 to 16 years old on various scholastic areas
• To identify goals and highlight areas of strength and improvement for the child
• Volunteer tutor will work with the Tutoring Program Supervisor and with recommendations from the child's teacher
• To prepare weekly tutoring lessons for the child based on their needs and goals, which incorporate his/her school curriculum
• To complete their weekly log outlining the progress and improvements in various areas while also detailing the areas of curriculum which the student and tutor have covered
• To be present and punctual for all scheduled tutoring sessions.  If unable to attend the tutor must re-schedule their session as soon as possible with the child learner.

 Skills Required:

• Must have strong English skills both spoken and written and cross-cultural communication skills
• Must have an interest in working with children in an educational environment
• Strong skills in math and science and social sciences is helpful
• Must be patient, friendly, reliable, non-judgemental and non-discriminating

 Orientation &Training:

• Training Workshop for all tutors will be at 248 Ossington Avenue
• Staff provides orientation and tutor training sessions before tutors are matched with child
• On-going support provided by staff

 Program Time & Location:

• St. Christopher House, 248 Ossington Ave.
• We are looking for volunteers who are available during program times: Mon 4-7pm, Tues 4-5:30pm, Wed 4-7pm and Thurs 4-7pm

 Volunteer Commitment:

• Once a week for 1 hour plus preparation time (1hour per student)
• 1 year minimum commitment to ensure continuity in the relationship
