Bang the Drum Computer Tutor
Bang the Drum is a Community Internet Access program that builds community from the user participation of its members. It provides free access to computers, the Internet and technology lessons. All computer courses are taught by the computer tutors, both one-on-one and small groups.
Volunteer Duties:
· To work with a small group to improve their computer literacy skills
· Must be reliable and punctual for all tutoring sessions
· Together with learner, form a lesson plan
· To keep a record of learning/progress/issues/challenges and report to Bang the Drum staff
· Must sign in each session
· Self development through Bang the Drum resource material
Skills Required:
· Needs to have a good knowledge of Win2000/XP and MS Office 2000/2003 programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
· Teaching experience is an asset
· Must have an interest in teaching and adult education
· Understanding of different learning styles
· Must be friendly, open, reliable, patient, non-judgemental and non-discriminating
Subjects will teach:
· MS Office 2000/2003, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access
· HTML 4.0
· C, Java or PHP
· MYSQL
· Linux
Orientation & Training:
· Questionnaire and initial interview with program staff
· Assistance with formulating lesson plans
· On-going support provided by staff
· Attend program meetings as scheduled
Program Time & Location:
·
· Need to be available for tutoring for 1or1.5 hours either on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays or Saturdays in the afternoon
Volunteer Commitment:
· 2 hours a week, one hour of teaching plus one hour of preparation
· 6 months to ensure continuity in the relationship
