Friendly Visiting is looking for volunteers that has computer skills to facilitate a small group of participants in the seniors computer room. The languages are Portuguese, English and Vietnamese. The volunteers has to be available during the day time preferable between 3 - 4 pm Monday to Friday.

Volunteer Duties:

·        To work with a small group to improve their computer literacy skills

·        Must be reliable and punctual for all tutoring sessions

·        Together with learner, form a lesson plan

·        To keep a record of learning/progress/issues/challenges

·        Must sign in each session

Skills Required:

·        Needs to speak fluent Portuguese, Vietnamese and English

·        Needs to have good computer skills, including knowledge of Win98/2000 and MS Word2000 programs

·        Teaching experience is a strong asset

·        Must have an interest in teaching and adult education

·        Understanding of different learning styles

·        Must be friendly, open, reliable, patient, non-judgemental and non-discriminating

Orientation & Training:

·        Questionnaire and initial interview with program staff

·        1 day “shadowing” before being matched

·        Assistance with formulating lesson plans

·        On-going support provided by staff

·        Attend program meetings as scheduled

Program Time & Location:

·        248 Ossington Avenue (Ossington and Dundas West)

·        3 - 4 pm Monday to Friday

Volunteer Commitment:

·        one hour of teaching

·        6 months to ensure continuity in the relationship
