Transportation Drivers
The volunteer transportation driver uses his/her own vehicle to drive a frail senior with an escort to appointments. The driver may assist the “escort” with helping the frail senior in and out of the vehicle.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
· Friendly smile
· Arrive at the clients home at the arranged time as agreed upon
· Review map and instructions
· Drive the escort and frail senior to scheduled appointment safely
· Use of own vehicle and maintain vehicle in safe condition
· Provide recent copy of drivers abstract
· Daily check-in with staff after transportation services provided
· Inform the Transportation staff at least three days in advance if unable to drive
· Participation in volunteer job related training workshops
Skills/Qualifications Required:
· Must enjoy working with people
· Must have an interest in seniors and disabled persons' issues
· Have access to road worthy and safe vehicle
· Possess a valid drivers licence and safe driving record
· Valid car insurance
· Physical ability to do some lifting as required (walkers etc.)
· Reliable and punctual
· Must be friendly, reliable, patient, non-judgemental and non- discriminating
Orientation, Training and Benefits:
· Staff provides orientation and training before volunteers are placed in the program
· On-going support provided by staff
· On-going training workshop opportunities and get-togethers provided throughout the year
· Mileage stipend and parking expenses reimbursed
Supervision and Evaluation:
· Periodic checks on vehicle, insurance, licence and safe driving ability
Program Time:
· Monday – Friday, 9-5pm, dependent on when seniors need to use the service
Volunteer Commitment:
· Volunteers are asked to be flexible to volunteering on an on-call basis depending on need
· Minimum of 6 months or more
