Since starting ESL tutoring 9 years ago I have taught at 3 St. Chris locations (Liberty, Argyle and Ossington), have worked with 6 different coordinators and taught students from 9 different countries. Sometimes I give myself a short or long break from tutoring at St. Chris when family responsibilities and other jobs take pride of place. What makes me come back to St. Chris? The pleasant atmosphere at St. Chris makes it a home away from home for me and for the students that come here, the ones that have just moved to Canada or the ones that have been here a long time and still feel alienated. As an immigrant myself I can relate to the feelings of ‘strangeness’ of my students. The aspect lacking in their lives, proficiency in the English language, is something I love teaching them. And St. Christopher House provides the right environment and support for tutors and learners!
