The Birthday Song - To the tune of “Those Were the Days”
One hundred years ago St. Chris was opened
It was very different than today
The car and telephone were new inventions
Women didn’t vote, and gays were locked away.
CHORUS
Those were the days my friend, lending a guiding hand
Improving lives for all both old and young,
And in a sudden flash, a hundred years have passed
That’s why we celebrate and sing this song.
At Lake Scugog we got out of the city,
And swam, canoed and breathed the pure, clean air
CHORUS
Well Baby Clinic, Meals on Wheels and sports games
Helped make us strong and showed a world of care. CHORUS
More recently we joined with Parkdale Focus,
Our HATS troupe has performed both far and wide
The Meeting Place, FAPS, and employment programs
Are only some that we name now with pride.
CHORUS
But some things haven’t changed, it’s plain to see now
The rich do well, the rest get left behind
Those with greatest ne-ed are neglected
And this is where St. Chris will always shine.
CHORUS + La, la…….
Words written by Steve Haflidson and Sherry Squires.
